OKLAHOMA
CITY (AP) - Oklahoma County courts have given a seven-year
suspended sentence to a former Del City minister who
pleaded guilty to molesting young girls in his congregation.
The Rev. Roy E. Jones, 56, also must serve 200 hours of
community service, pay $2,000 into the state victims'
compensation fund and repay a $10,000 settlement Jones won
in a lawsuit alleging police were harassing him in the
molestation investigation. In 1986, Jones molested several
young girls in his congregation at the First Baptist
Church of Del City, where he was pastor for 35 years,
authorities said. He pleaded guilty late Thursday to two
counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor and one
count of forcible oral sodomy.
